What is the project?

100 Stories High is a new outdoor video projection piece made by imitating the dog. It is being made for Lightpool Festival in Blackpool and also Light up Lancaster Festival. It will be a large-scale animated projection onto a prominent building in each town, accompanied by a new soundtrack by composer, James Hamilton.

Encounter Voices are looking for people to join a choir to perform on the 3 live nights, to perform the soundtrack to the video work. You don’t need any musical or singing ability. You just need an open mind and enthusiasm!

The piece will be a 10-minute projection piece, which loops, playing several times throughout each evening. It will use the architecture of the buildings to tell a story about the importance of home, about holding onto memories and sometimes letting go…

When is it?

There will be 3 performances:
1 night in Blackpool with voices recorded at the workshops as part of Lightpool Festival, on 28th October
and
2 nights in Lancaster with live choir (at Lancaster Castle) as part of Light Up Lancaster on 4th and 5th of November.

How do I get involved?

There will be 4 workshop rehearsals (2 in Blackpool and 2 in Lancaster). For people joining the live choir in Lancaster we’d like you to come to at least one of them and 2 would be better. Then we ask that you join us to perform at at least 1 of the live event nights, but more if you can! The piece will be performed several times on each live event night, so you will be there for a couple of hours on those nights. Imitating the Dog will get directly in contact about supporting travel for participants in Blackpool who would like to take part in the Light Up Lancaster live choir.

Who can join?

If you are from, or based in Lancashire, then this is for you. We are happy for families and young people to join, and the age guidance is 11+ People under 15 should be accompanied by an adult.

Sounds great! I want to take part! What now?

What else do I need to know?

It will be winter, and we can’t guarantee dry or warm weather. The performances will be outdoors, so you’ll need some warm clothes and some gloves!

It will be a lot of fun — we CAN guarantee that.

We will provide refreshments at the rehearsals and the live performances. We will also provide wristbands for the viewing zone on Sat 5th Nov in Lancaster for those who want to watch the fireworks with us.
